Transforming this iconic woodblock print into cross stitch will allow you to experience the artwork in a new way, adding vibrancy and texture with Mouliné Spécial threads. This print was published between 1829 and 1933, in the late Edo period. It is the first print in Hokusai’s series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The Great Wave has been acclaimed and appreciated throughout the Western world.
Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, painter, and printmaker. He is best known for his woodblock print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (c. 1831), including the famous Great Wave off Kanagawa, created in the 1820s.
The British Museum opened in 1759 and has become one of the best-known and most visited museums in the world. The museum’s extensive collections include around eight million objects spanning two million years of human history. With objects largely collected during the British Empire, its permanent collection is one of the largest and most comprehensive in existence.
