The vibrant yellows of this work look stunning when embroidered with the included Mouliné Spécial thread. This complete bookmark kit has been developed in collaboration with the National Gallery, where you can admire one of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers paintings. Van Gogh painted five different versions of Sunflowers to decorate his home in Arles in anticipation of a visit by his friend and fellow artist, Paul Gauguin. This is one of the first paintings Van Gogh completed and demonstrates his characteristically expressive style.
Dutch post-impressionist painter Van Gogh has become one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. His landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits are characterized by vivid colors and a dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork.
The National Gallery in London is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of paintings. Its collection numbers 2,300 works, including many famous paintings such as van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez’s Venus at Rokeby, Turner’s Temeraire’s Battle and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. All the great traditions of Western European painting are represented, from the artists of late medieval and Renaissance Italy to the French Impressionists.
